4. Research freelance markets
There are a lot of freelance markets out there, and you need to know how they work, how they pay, and what other writers are saying about them. Some of the content sites pay very low flat rates (sometimes just a few dollars per article).
Others take a cut of what the article sells for, and the percentages can vary quite a bit.
Content sites also differ in how you get assignments. With some, you see a list of client requests for certain topics or keywords.
You choose one you like (ideally a topic you’re familiar with so you don’t have to spend a lot of time on research), write the article, and submit it.
If the client likes it, you get paid. Some content sites come at it from the opposite angle: You write an article about a topic of your choice, and the content site makes it available for purchase.
If it sells, you get paid. Some do both – you can submit an article to the general pool or respond to a particular need. Above all, never register with a site until you’ve read some user reviews.
No site is going to be able to make every writer happy, but the reviews from other writers should be overwhelmingly positive. One example of a site you can sell written articles on is Constant Content.
