2. Analyze the market
As with any business venture, you have to decide whether there is a market for what you’re selling.
Freelance writing is nothing other than selling your ideas and your words, and there are a lot of buyers out there. Here are just some of the markets for freelance writers:
Content sites: Content sites act as a middleman between customers who want certain content and the writers who produce it.
The content site pays you either a flat fee or a percentage of the price your article brings.
Job posting sites: Job posting sites are flooded with companies or individuals looking for writers (although that doesn’t mean every job posted is a good one).
With a job posting site, you apply or bid for a job that interests you. If you get the assignment, you’ll work in direct contact with the customer instead of through the hosting site.
Ezines are online magazines or newsletters. They’re often delivered via email. It’s very easy for customers to click “unsubscribe,” if they’re bored, so ezine publishers are always looking for fresh content.
The trick is to find an ezine that focuses on a topic you know very well and to contact the owner with a solid pitch.
