11 Reasons That You Should Keep Your Side Job A Secret

Challenge

3. The boss doesn’t think you’re challenged enough

If your employer catches wind that you’re moonlighting, he or she may not think that you aren’t being challenged enough in your current position.

They very likely could begin to remedy that situation by assigning more duties and responsibilities to you.

Having a second job as well as your primary job can be tough.

You may be comfortable balancing the two now, but if your employer decides to suddenly tack on extra projects and obligations you might be hard pressed to fulfill everything effectively and efficiently.

Your employer might not be purposely trying to sabotage your side career, but why tempt fate?

If your main job is going smoothly and it allows for you to take on side jobs that you enjoy, it’s simply a good policy to keep that to yourself. This way, you won’t be overburdened with extra work that may leave you stressed and unable to complete the duties of either job.

In addition, you might not be challenged enough at work which is why you’re seeking another type of side work. That doesn’t mean you want to give up your main job. It may have great benefits or a flexible schedule or any number of things that keep you there. If you get your mental stimulation from a side job – so be it!
