Different social media platforms offer you different kinds of services, but it all comes down to one thing – connecting similar-minded people and making you and whatever you’re offering stand out.

Among many social media sites, Instagram has swept a rug under every other site’s feet and took the world by storm. No wonder the Facebook Company bought it.

As a freelance writer, you’re constantly looking for new ways and cool ideas to get your writing noticed in order to get a wider audience, to get more freelancing gigs, or to simply show off your mad skills.

Social media is a great way to do just that – including Instagram. Yes, although the world’s most popular social media platform is based on posting photos and short videos, it can actually be a pretty helpful tool for a freelance writer.

So, how can you use Instagram?

Linking

You can easily post photos captioned with a link to your publication. Make sure to try to get a really great photo that somehow visualizes the idea of your publication.

If You’re A Poet

Poets are still alive and kicking, and they’re using Instagram like it was designed for them and for them only. The great thing about “social media art,” especially the one on Instagram, is that you can easily post photos of (shorter) poems. Keep the font clean and make sure that the emphasis is on the words you wrote.

Posting Quotes

You can post your own quotes or someone elses, it doesn’t matter. Make sure to use hashtags that a lot of people use (and that have something to do with your writing) to reach a wide audience. As with photo poems, keep it clean.

Videos

When you’ve gained a follower or two, you can post promo videos for your upcoming publications, new projects, and maybe even a book (just make sure you actually wrote one). Videos are a great way to connect to your audience.
