Working from home can seem like a dream come true for many people. There’s no need to commute, there’s no one watching over your shoulder all the time, and it’s much easier to balance your work with caring responsibilities when you’re based in your own place.
Of course though, it isn’t for everyone, and there are questions that you need to ask yourself to determine whether it’s the right choice for you.
Here, we walk you through the things you need to consider before taking the plunge.
1. Is the opportunity legitimate?
Though there are many opportunities out there that are perfectly legitimate, there are sadly some con artists out there who will promise you never-ending riches and work flexibility, only to disappear completely as soon as you’ve handed over your cash as a ‘start-up fee’.
Be aware that almost all real opportunities won’t require you to part with any money to get started, and the Internet is your friend when it comes to research.
Find out what people are saying about the various choices out there, and carefully assess which ones seem to be the most promising, If something seems too good to be true though, it probably is!
Whilst there’s always the option to buy into someone else’s scheme, you could consider going completely self-employed and setting up your own venture from scratch. Just a few opportunities that you might want to consider include freelance writing, web design, virtual administration, and translation work. Most of these do require some expertise, of course, but if you already have the skills, it makes sense to work out ways in which you can monetize them.
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel when it comes to working from home!
